Day 1:
Leaving home at the crack of dawn, I was driven to Tullamarine Airport to catch the 6am flight to Sydney on QANTAS. It was a small jet, a bit cramped, no leg room :( but that was'nt much of a problem since the flight was only about 90 minutes. They served a light breakfast on the plane, which was nice. You wouldn't get anything like that on Virgin Blue. The light entertainment was an episode of the Drew Carey show.
Touching down at around 7:30am, I caught a shuttle bus to the Hotel and met up with the friends I would be sharing a room with. With 3 in room we were paying about $40 each a night.
The opening ceremonies was in a nice large room, but was a bit cold. The air con was on too high i think. The list of guests were:
The next guest was Marco Nero, special effect guy and conceptual artist for the show.
The dealers room had some good stuff, but I didn't get the Crichton figure I was after as it was $30 and I couldnt justify spending that much on it. At the back of the room Anthony, Gigi & Jonathon signing autographs. A bit pricey for Autographs.... $30 for a standard photo. Gigi had some smaller B&W non-Farscape photos on offer too. To have personal item signed by the guest, it was $15 each. I had my Chiana figure signed and presented her with a Farscape Tshirt I had made. The idea for the Tshirt came about when Gigi didn't make it for the TaScape BBQ back in January 2002, but Tammy did, so the image of Chiana holding Jool by the neck against the bulkhead of Moya was perfect for the occasion. Gigi and Anthony loved the Chiana Tshirt I was wearing that I made for the convention, so much so that wanted to get one for themselves :)
Lunch was nothing special, went down the street to the local McDonalds, since the Hotel Bistro was too expensive. Since the Hotel is practically in the heart of Kings Cross (Red Light District), I had to pass several Adult Shops to get to McDonalds and was asked "Do you want a lady sweetie?" by a few prostitutes.
After lunch Jonathon & Lani did a talk. Jonathan does a great speel, and I think is in love with his own voice, rarely giving Lani a chance to speak.
The best session of the day was when Gigi & Anthony shared the stage. Gigi looked gorgeous, as always, dressed in a black leather vest and black tulle skirt. For some reason that I do not remember, Gigi decided to flash her underwear at the audience and I happened to snap a pic of that very action by pure luck!
The Charity auction, benifiting the Guide Dogs of Australia was hosted by several of the guests. The item that raised the most money was a drawing of Aeryn & Crichton done by Cheryl Manning, Froony's wife. It went for a staggering $800 !!
There was a couple of arns before the Banquet so I went back to the dealers room and got Gigi and Anthony to pose for a photo. It turned out excellent. So clear, I was impressed.
The Banquet was great.... the food was really good!! I went back for seconds :) even of the deserts.... Loved the Chocolate & Strawberry mousse. There wasnt a guest at our table, I didn't mind, but got plenty of excellent photos. That is when Captain Braca, AKA David Franklin made a suprise appearance! After the buffet has been devoured by all attending, Froony made some announcements and Deb presented the cast and crew with Miners Helmets.
The reasoning behind that was David Kemper said working on Farscape is like working in a coal mine and don't get to see the light of day much. The helmets were decorated in a theme related to the particular actor.... Like Gigi's was light purple, angelic like :) and Lani's helmet had a drawing of a red high heel shoe on the back in reference to the "Won't get fooled again" episode, and Ben's, even though he wasen't attending had a mini surfboard attached to the front and was signed by some Aussie surfers.
Deb presented Froony with a Roswell award, which was excellent since one was present to Lani and the cast at the TaScape BBQ back in January. She also impressed him with a MAMBO poster, personally signed by Reg Mombasa, one of the principle artists and designers from Mambo, who was also a guitarist with the Australian Pop band "Mental as Anything".
The night continued with some disco music and dancing on the small stage/dancefloor, they cheered when YMCA was played, as it seemed very appropriate for the occasion. The partying went until midnight, a fantastic time had by all. I managed to request one song from the DJ, the unofficial Aussie Anthem "Down Under" by Men at Work. After the festivities, some people went to one of the hotel rooms to watch some Season 4 Episodes on a hired TV.
Day 2 was almost the same as the previous day with minor changes. When the Puppeteers did their talk, they did another demonstration and this time it was about Pilot, it was just as funny as the Rygel demostration the day before.... LOL....
I guess I must of dozed off during Jonathon's talk, probally cause I didn't get enough sleep, thanks to a certain person :( Anyway what made me jump was a burst of static from the large speakers. Before Gigi started her 2nd talk, we were asked to look under our seats for small card.... I didn't find one, which was unfortunate... the prize was an autographed photo of Chiana.
After all the festivities have been concluded, there was a break for nearly 2 arns before the wrap party. The drinks wern't cheap... pretty darn expensive actually. It was great to chat with the other fans and the guest again. It continued until about midnight when we were told to politely clear out. Most of the fans went to bed, but the rest moved to the Bar downstairs... where it eventually wound down near 2am.
A frelling fantastic time had by all!!! I'm certainly comming to TaScape 2003 next January.
